The Vancouver Whitecaps are at the top of the Western Conference table with an MVP candidate who continues to climb up the scoring chart. Brian White has scored in four consecutive MLS matches and now has 28.8 per cent of all Whitecaps goals in MLS play this season.
As Vancouver begins a five-match road trip Tuesday night in Chicago, White will be looking to add to his 17 MLS goals, which have him third in the MLS Golden Boot race behind Lionel Messi (21) and FC Dallas’ Petar Musa (18).

The 2026 season has been White’s most prolific MLS scoring campaign. White’s 17 goals are an MLS career high for him, and they have come off of 39 shots on target, giving him a 43.5 per cent shooting percentage from his shots that have hit the target. White is also scoring as the season enters the final stretch of matches with seven goals in his last seven MLS matches.
“As a striker, you try to set a goal in mind of how many goals you want to score in a season,” White told Offside. “Ultimately the goal is to win MLS Cup, Supporters Shield and win those team trophies; those are the things that mean the most. Being in the Golden Boot race is obviously a nice bonus, but for me at the end of the day you want to win MLS Cup, Supporters Shield, and trophies like this.”

The Whitecaps rank second in MLS with 59 goals scored, with 15 different players contributing to that number. White leads MLS with an expected-goals (xG) rate of 16.53.
“He has had a lot of success with the team,” Whitecaps head coach Jesper Sørensen told Offside. “He’s also been very fortunate being the striker on a good team, so sometimes that’s connected. He’s a good player, of course; he’s showed that for many years. If somebody is noticing that he’s having a great year, then I think it’s well deserved. As a goalscorer and a guy who can get the ball in the back of the net, of course he’s one of the best in the league.”
100-goal mark in sight

The trade that brought White to Vancouver on June 2, 2021 is the best trade in MLS franchise history. The 30-year-old has 97 goals across all competitions with the Whitecaps since.
The Whitecaps’ all-time leading goalscorer in the MLS era trails only the late great Domenic Mobilio for most goals scored in franchise history. Mobilio scored 170 goals.
What would it mean for White to break the century mark?
“Getting to 100, personally, it’s a big deal,” White said. “It’s a culmination of years of hard work. Good teammates performing well at the end of the day because it’s not like I’m dribbling the ball against three guys. I’ve been lucky enough to have really good players on the team, game plans from the staff to put me in good positions to score goals.”
Not your typical striker

White is not the type of scorer that will race past defenders or pick a corner from beyond distance. He brings a physical element to opposition defenders. He scores off headers, rebounds, failed clearances, give-and-goes, and gaining a position advantage in the box.
“There’s a lot of different ways you can play the No. 9 position,” White said. “I think I’m more of the classic N0.9, I can hold the ball up and make some runs in the box. Lose defenders, give them a hard time physically, run them down, pressure them, try and wear them down that way. Fortunately, I’ve been involved in a team that allows me to flourish.”
Health

One of the keys to White’s success this season has been his availability. White was hamstrung by a pair of hamstring injuries last season, which limited him to 21 MLS appearances. He has played in 24 of 26 regular-season matches this season.
Vancouver will be without several key players when they play the Fire at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Jeevan Badwal, Kenji Cabrera, and Belal Halbouni, are all out with injuries. Andres Cubas, Ralph Priso, Edier Ocampo, and Mihail Gherasimencov are away on international duty.
Vancouver will continue their road trip with matches at LAFC, St. Louis, Austin FC, and Colorado before returning home to play San Diego on Wednesday, October 28.
