Talk about an eventful weekend.
Not only did Ryan Gauld help the Vancouver Whitecaps win their biggest game in 15 years, but he was probably doing so on very little sleep.
Kat Gauld revealed on Instagram that she and her husband, the Whitecaps captain, welcomed a baby boy to the world on Nov. 21.

That means that baby Gauld was born one day before the Whitecaps pulled off a dramatic win in penalty kicks over LAFC in the MLS Western Conference Semifinal.
“Our little man is here! Ruben Stewart Gauld, born on the 21st of November, a day early at 11:42 a.m.,” Kat said on Instagram.
“Filling our hearts in ways we never imagined.”
Gauld missed most of the 2025 season due to injury, playing in just six of the Whitecaps’ 34 games before the playoffs. The Scotsman missed seven months of action before finally returning to the pitch on Oct. 1, where he scored in his return.
That was one of the first signs that fans learned Gauld had a baby on the way, as he celebrated his goal by stuffing a soccer ball in his jersey.

āIāve been waiting a long time to do it,” Gauld said after scoring in his return. “My wifeās seven months pregnant.ā
Gauld ended up playing 58 minutes during the Whitecaps’ win over LAFC after subbing on for Emmanuel Sabbi in the second half. He was also one of four goal scorers for the Whitecaps during penalties.
In a wild 36-hour window, Gauld welcomed a child to the world and scored in front of nearly 54,000 fans at BC Place.
