First-place Vancouver Whitecaps off to best start in MLS franchise history

The Vancouver Whitecaps are cruising at the top of the MLS standings thanks to an MLS franchise-best start to the 2025 season.

Following Saturday night’s impressive 1-0 road victory over FC Dallas, in which the Whitecaps limited their opponents to zero shots on goal, the team improved to a sparkling 4-0-0 record on the season. This is the first time the team has gone undefeated through the first four games and just the seventh time it has ever happened in MLS history.

That effort has Vancouver atop the MLS table with 12 points, but new Whitecaps head coach Jesper Sørensen is making sure to keep his squad humble.

“As I told the players, maybe we may have a perfect record, but we are not a perfect team,” Sørensen said after Saturday night’s game. “Everyone is working their butts off and doing everything they can. We are getting more confident and we are getting better each day.”

Everything seems to be going right for the Whitecaps at the moment. Through four games, Vancouver has gotten contributions from 10 different goal-scorers, which is nearing the 14 that scored goals all of last season. This has spread out the offence considerably as defender Sam Adekugbe currently leads the team in goals with just two.

Adekugbe is currently injured, as is captain Ryan Gauld, which makes this run even more impressive. They’ve also made it to the quarter-final of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

On the defensive side of the pitch, the Whitecaps have been spectacular as well. The club has only allowed two goals so far this season and are currently on a streak of 231 minutes without letting up a single goal in MLS play. The four-game win streak also ties a record for the longest in franchise history, tying marks set in 2021 and 2015.

“I think the mentality has been great with the group,” added Whitecaps striker Brian White. “We’ve been in this little bit of a grind and flow and credit to the boys, we’re doing everything we can to get some really good results in these 24 days with 8 games.”

That grind is set to continue for Vancouver as they are set to host the Chicago Fire FC at BC Place this Saturday.
