Whistler's free summer concert series reveals lineup of huge stars

Summertime was made for outdoor concerts, and Whistler is offering a stunning backdrop for both artists and music lovers this year.

The Whistler Summer Concert Series returns to Whistler Olympic Plaza from July to September, with 13 nights of free live music, 11 outdoor movie screenings, and more. Headlining acts include the Steven Page Trio, The Trews, Skiitour, and more.

Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton said that the resort municipality is proud to welcome guests from around the world for the festivities.

“We look forward to welcoming back annual concertgoers while inviting brand new faces to experience the magnetic appeal of the Summer Concert Series,” said Crompton in a release.

“Each year, the Village comes alive with music, connection, and a shared energy that brings our community and visitors together in a truly special mountain setting. This year’s lineup transcends genres and speaks to the diversity of both our international visitorship and local residents.”

Each evening’s programming begins at 6:30 p.m. with live opening DJ sets. Headlining performers during concert nights take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Bring a blanket to enjoy the shows from the great lawn, or get up and dance all night long.

The concert series kicks off on Canada Day with Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Steven Page, co-founder, vocalist and songwriter with former band Barenaked Ladies.

The Steven Page Trio, which includes Craig Northey of Canadian rock favourites Odds and acclaimed cellist Kevin Fox on cello, will be accompanied by a string quartet made up of some of the country’s top classical musicians.

Get ready to sing along to hits from Page’s solo catalogue of solo material, as well as lots of Barenaked Ladies hits.

There are also several outdoor movie nights planned for Whistler Olympic Plaza, including comedy favourites and box-office hits.
