Toronto Blue Jays have new home-run jacket for the playoffs

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hadn’t smashed a ball out of the park in six career postseason games.

That changed pretty quickly on Saturday.

During first inning action between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees, Guerrero ended his postseason home run futility with a bomb over the fence in left field.

When the 26-year-old returned to the dugout, he was presented with a return of the home run jacket.

The Blue Jays first unveiled the home run jacket in 2021. That spurned a trend of home run dugout celebrations around the league. This included the swag chain for the San Diego Padres and the homer hose for the Baltimore Orioles.

Toronto kept the home run jacket around from its 2021 inception, through the 2022 season, when they led the majors in home runs. However, after a crushing AL Wild Card loss to the Seattle Mariners that season, they announced the retirement of the jacket in 2023.

They did bring it back once in May of 2024, but it’s seldom been seen since.

Until now.

This isn’t the same home run jacket from before. This one was custom-made for the 2025 postseason.

For starters, the jacket is emboldened with “Postseason 2025” right on the back.

There are over 20 countries listed on the back of the jacket. That includes places of heritage for Guerrero (Dominican Republic), Bo Bichette (Brazil), and Alejandro Kirk (Canada) at the very top.

In large font, you can see the word “plakata” on both the back and left breast of the jacket. The word is a Spanish, onomatopoeic word for a hard hit baseball that goes for a home run.

This word originated from the sound former Dominican MLBer Carlos Peña used to make when a home run was hit. Guerrero then brought it back to the forefront in his early days with the Blue Jays.

The names of Blue Jays players on the roster have been sewn into the inside of the home run jacket as well.

Other features on the jacket include a gold and blue sparkled Blue Jays logo on the back, sparkles on the bottom of the jacket, along with the words “The Six” in cursive on the right back of the coat.

The left arm appears to say “The Blue Jacket,” while the right arm is covered with a bejeweled Canadian flag.

The Jays playoff slogan, “want it all,” is also visible at the bottom of the jacket on the left side. Customizations galore.

It didn’t take long for Guerrero to hand off the jacket. After his first-inning homer, Kirk followed suit with a home run of his own in the second inning.

He followed that up with another home run in the eighth inning, his fifth home run in his last 10 at-bats. That dinger gave Toronto a 7-1 lead in the eighth inning. The Jays ended up spanking the Yankees 10-1 in Game 1.

The jacket is back, and the vibes are good for the start of the Blue Jays’ postseason quest.
