A special weather statement is in effect for Metro Vancouver, calling for heat and elevated temperatures over the next few days.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a notice on Thursday afternoon, warning residents of an “early season heat event.”
“A period of elevated temperatures is expected,” reads the statement, adding that temperatures will start to rise on Saturday and continue into early next week.
“A ridge of high pressure is bringing high temperatures to the region,” stated ECCC.

ECCC
“Daytime highs are expected to be in the high 20s to low 30s with overnight lows in the low to mid teens. High temperatures will persist into early next week.”
The agency added that early-season heat can be a “significant” weather event due to the “lack of acclimatization to elevated temperatures.”
ECCC is advising folks to keep their homes cool and watch for the signs of heat illness, which can include “heavy sweating, rash, cramps, fainting, high body temperature and the worsening of some health conditions.”

ECCC
According to ECCC’s most current forecast, Metro Vancouver’s inland temperatures are forecast to reach at least 29°C this weekend.
“Fans alone cannot effectively lower core body temperature, especially for older adults,” warned ECCC. “Use fans to pull in cooler air from outdoors, but if you or someone you care for is experiencing symptoms of heat illness, find a cooler space.”
This is ECCC’s first heat-related special weather statement for Metro Vancouver this year.
