“Pink Pony Club” is becoming a big part of the Edmonton Oilers’ Stanley Cup run, to the point that even Wayne Gretzky is hearing of it.
Chappell Roan’s hit has served as the Oilers’ win song throughout this year’s run, which has caught on with the Edmonton fan base in large fashion. Gretzky, however, seemed to be in the dark about it, but that all changed last night.
Gretzky was in Edmonton with the entire TNT crew for Game 1 versus the Florida Panthers. As Paul Bissonnette brought up “Pink Pony Club” post-game, it totally confused the 64-year-old hockey legend.
“Pink Pony. Is that a band or is that a song?” asked a befuddled Gretzky.
Bissonnette explained the situation to Gretzky, who then joked, “Pink Pony. I gotta get that [as] my ringtone.”
Wayne Gretzky: "Pink Pony? Is that a band or is that a song?"
Paul Bissonnette: "It's a woman (Chappell Roan). She sings a song 'Pink Pony Club'. And it's famous, it's on the radio."

Though Gretzky may not be dialled in on pop culture, he remains an absolute genius when it comes to analyzing hockey. The Great One perfectly described what Connor McDavid needed to do in order to get last night’s game tied up at three apiece, and the Oilers captain delivered just a short time later.

In his typical humble fashion, however, Gretzky didn’t want to boast about his accurate assessment.
“Let me tell you something, that’s called luck,” Gretzky said. “He’s the best player in the world, he knows what he’s doing. I just got lucky with that statement.”
The Oilers were able to put on a show with Gretzky in the building, as they wound up winning in overtime by a 4-3 final.
Winning the opening game is often a strong indication as to who wins the series, giving Oilers fans plenty of confidence that this may finally be the year this organization can end its lengthy Stanley Cup drought.
