The weather around B.C. continues to be unseasonably warm to start February, and several cities across the province broke temperature records this week, including two spots that shattered 96-year-old records.

According to the daily weather summaries from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), 15 B.C. spots tied or set records as of 11:11 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

While Vancouver has been experiencing a mild month so far, Bella Bella and Tatlayoko Lake saw their respective nearly century-old high temperature records fall.

Bella Bella, home to the largest First Nations community on B.C.’s west coast, smashed a Feb. 4 record that has been in place since 1930. It reached a temperature of 19.5°C.

The previous record for the date was only 16.4°C, a difference of over 3°C.

In Tatlayoko Lake, located in the Central Interior, temperatures rose to a new record of 18.1°C.

The precious high temperature mark of 17.8°C was set back in February of 1930.

Other B.C. spots that saw warm temperature records set on Feb. 4 include West Vancouver (15.6°C), Cranbrook (11.7°C), Powell River (15.2°C), Qualicum Beach (14.5°C), Hope (12.1°C), and Dawson Creek (11.1°C).

Several of the high-temperature marks were set decades ago.

Closer to home, the forecast for Metro Vancouver this week is calling for a break from the rain, though it won’t last long.

Rain will hold off until Friday evening, when the wet stuff returns just in time for the weekend. Keep your umbrellas and rainboots nearby as ECCC is calling for rain to continue until at least mid next week.
