Warm and sunny weekend for Metro Vancouver, up to 26°C inland

Dec 20 2017, 5:12 am

It’s going to be a scorcher in some parts of the Metro Vancouver region and throughout the Fraser Valley today.

Environment Canada’s latest forecast this morning predicts clear skies and highs of 18°C by the water, which moderates air temperatures, and 26°C within inland areas, such as Coquitlam, Langley, and Surrey. Essentially, temperatures will be warmer as you go further east.

These above seasonal conditions are expected to last through Friday, when there will be highs of 19°C by the water and 26°C inland.

Temperatures will drop slightly during the weekend, with highs of 15°C by the water and 20°C inland by Sunday, but sunny conditions will prevail.

While the conditions through the weekend will be perfect for outdoor activities, such as hiking in the local mountains, extra caution should still be exercised. The warm temperatures will accelerate the rate of snow melt, which means water levels at rivers and streams will likely be high and flowing rapidly.

Rainfall is forecasted to return to Metro Vancouver beginning on Monday.
