The Vancouver Police (VPD) Major Crime Section is investigating after the discovery of woman’s body in a Granville Street apartment in downtown Vancouver, early on Wednesday morning.

According to police, officers were called to the Regal Hotel on Granville Street, near Helmcken Street, about a “strong odour” on the second floor.

When police attended to the apartment in question, they found the body of the dead woman inside.

The victim has been identified as a 31-year-old Vancouver resident, but police said they will not be releasing her name until the woman’s next-of-kin have been notified.

At this point, police said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

“Detectives do not believe this was a random event and advise that there is no risk to the general public,” said VPD Const. Jason Doucette in a release.

As part of their investigation, police are also asking anyone who may have information on this incident to call them at 604-717-2500.

Those who wish to leave an anonymous tip can do so by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by leaving a tip online.

This is city’s 13th homicide of 2018.
