Police investigating arson at Masonic Hall in East Vancouver

Mar 30 2021, 5:13 pm

Police are investigating a fire at the Masonic Hall in East Vancouver.

The blaze occurred on Tuesday morning near Rupert Street and East 29th Avenue.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) tells Daily Hive that the incident is being investigated as arson and that they’re actively searching for a suspect.

“Officers will be posted at all other Masonic Halls in Vancouver,” says Constable Tania Visintin.

Contrary to other media reports, Visintin notes that no arrests have been made and no suspects are in custody at this time.

VPD is also working with the North Vancouver RCMP to determine any connections between this incident and two early-morning fires in North Vancouver, both of which occurred at Masonic Halls.

Sergeant Peter DeVries of the North Vancouver RCMP says that the investigation is in “very early stages.”

“As the investigation unfolds, we will gain a better understanding of the cause of these fires, whether or not they are related, and if the evidence will establish that these were, in fact, the result of arson,” he says.
