Vancouver Police have arrested two men in relation to a shooting on Wednesday evening on Vancouver’s west side, where a 42-year-old Vancouver man was targeted.
“This was a reckless act in a heavily populated area, very early in the evening,” said VPD Const. Tania Visintin. “It’s frightening for the neighbourhood and the consequences could have been far worse. This type of crime is not welcome in Vancouver.”
The shooting happened near West 29th Avenue and Dunbar Street at about 5:45 pm.
Police said officers responded after a number of 911 calls reported shots being fired. A man carrying a baby in a car seat was targeted. He was accompanied by woman and a three-year-old child. The man was shot and the suspects fled in car. They collided with a parked vehicle and then fled on foot.
“This was an extremely dynamic and challenging call,” adds Visintin. “The VPD response was swift and effective. Officers apprehended the suspects a short distance away, while specially-trained Emergency Response Team medics applied first aid until paramedics arrived.”
The investigation is ongoing and police “will be at the site of the shooting today to investigate further,” she added.
The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects are in custody.
As part of the investigation, police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage from last night between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm in the area of 29th Avenue and Dunbar, and West 29th Avenue from Dunbar to Alma to call investigators at 604-717-2541.
