Visionary Steve Jobs Passes

Dec 19 2017, 1:09 pm

Apple released a statement today announcing the passing of a visionary and an icon of one of the greatest technological revolutions of our time. We announce that Steve Jobs has died at the age of 56 having accomplished a great deal in his gifted life.

Apple has changed the company website today in memorandum of Jobs. A page dedicated to his great memory describes their announcement with great sadness and has asked for thoughts and kind words to remember the man. You can email them to [email protected]. The page can be seen here: http://www.apple.com/stevejobs/.

In a positive twist, Steve Jobs was also one of the primary inspirations behind the font “Lucida Grande” which is also one of the default fonts used on Apple’s website and his own web page. Steve was inspired by typography when he slipped in to classes during his university days. His vision for the one first Apple computers was to have some of the most beautiful type available.

Above is a speech given by Steve Jobs at Stanford University in 2005. It is considered one of the most inspirational ever given at a graduation. Steve touches on three stories from his life, and hints at how his experiences and health has reminded him just how fragile life can be. It is truly one of the most touching speeches ever given.

Interestingly, Steve Jobs passing comes a day after the announcement of the iPhone 4S. We might never know if it was a coincidence. Steve continued his part  in Apple’s innovation until the last day. It seems just like yesterday when we heard the news that Steve was resigning from his position as CEO.

From the Vancity Buzz staff, thank you Steve for inspiring us and bringing us some of the greatest innovations of our time.
