A virtual mental health event is happening in Vancouver this week

Jun 17 2020, 11:05 pm

Fortune Sound Club will host the second installment of their mental health seminar for Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) in an effort to de-stigmatize mental health issues and highlight different approaches to true wellness.

The event, Mental Wealth II, will focus on BIPOC who are in the entertainment, creative, and hospitality industries. Due to the current Black Lives Matter movement shining a light on systemic and historic racism towards Black communities, the public is invited to tune in and listen to the stories and perspectives from BIPOC.

Hosted by Garret Louie and Nate Sabine, the seminar will take place as a live stream on the Fortune Sound Club website and on YouTube on Thursday, June 18, from 7 pm to 9 pm.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the physical building will not be open for in-person attendance, so all are encouraged to participate online.

The featured therapist for the event is Yasmin Hajian (Therapist/Healing in Colour) along with the following panellists:

  • Betty Mulat (NuZi Collective/VBT&AF)
  • Dora Kamau (Bliss Your Heart)
  • DJ Floetic (Diced Lemons)
  • DJ Denise (CITR’s QueerFM)
  • Jacob Callender-Prasad (Black Vancouver)

Fortune & Blueprint are also pledging a donation of $5,000 towards a GoFundMe for the even distribution of funds to Hogan’s Alley Society, the BC Civil Liberties Association, and the Vancouver Black Therapy & Advocacy Fund.

Followers and supporters are encouraged to pledge to the GoFundMe with an aim to raise a minimum of $10,000.
