31-year-old identified as victim of fatal shooting in Vancouver's Coal Harbour

Police have identified the victim of Saturday’s fatal shooting in Vancouver.

The targeted shooting occurred on April 17, just after 8:30 pm. Officers were called to Coal Harbour after reports of shots being fired outside Cardero’s Restaurant. Videos posted on social media showed a major police presence on the seawall, outside of the establishment.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says that one man was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the efforts of first responders to resuscitate him.

The victim has since been identified as 31-year-old Harpreet Singh Dhaliwal of Abbotsford. VPD says that they believe the incident was a “targeted killing” and that Dhaliwal was “the intended victim.”

“While we don’t think there is an immediate risk to the public, it is always shocking and unnerving when gun violence takes place in such a busy, public place,” VPD Sergeant Steve Addison says in a statement.

As the investigation continues, anyone with information is asked to contact 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is Vancouver’s fifth homicide of 2021.
