Halloween is the perfect excuse to get closer to your partner, and it is a surprisingly romantic holiday. Any one of this year’s list of Halloween-inspired dates is sure to be one of the most fun and memorable bonding experiences you’ll have with your date this year.

This week is Halloween week, so take advantage of it and go on some fun dates! Get spooked together and cuddle up close, bond over carving the perfect jack-o-lantern, create your own haunted hotel room, or have fun in the kitchen decorating pumpkin and ghost-shaped cookies.

Here are six Vancouver Halloween-themed dates:

1. A spooky movie night in a Halloween-themed hotel room

If you and your significant other are looking for a unique and extremely memorable Halloween-themed date that won’t break the bank, this is your best bet. Rent a room at a Budget-friendly hotel in Vancouver such as the Patricia Hotel, where rooms start at only $40 per night! After reserving your room, head to your nearest dollar store for some Halloween decorations to decorate your hotel room and make it a spooky themed room or your very own private haunted house! Local dollar stores like Dollarama have orange lights and flameless electric Halloween candles to give the room that haunted glow, as well as several inexpensive spooky decorations!

Want to go all out? Get a black ‘cauldron’ from Dollarama and purchase some dry ice to create spooky cocktails or witch’s brew that emits real smoke, perfect for your Halloween hotel night.

Bring along your favourite scary movie to watch with your date for a fun Halloween-themed date night! Even better: don’t breathe a word about this plan. Decorate the hotel room in advance and completely surprise your date!

2. Fright Nights

Fright Nights at the PNE is the perfect Halloween date because getting a little scared at a haunted theme park provides you with the perfect excuse to cuddle up close to your date all evening long. There are spooky themed rides, extravagant haunted houses and plenty of terrifying actors dressed in creepy costumes who roam the theme park all evening as ‘murderers on the loose.’

3. Bake Halloween cookies together

Have a little fun in the kitchen this Halloween and bake Halloween treats with your special someone! Decorating cookies in the shapes of ghosts, pumpkins or witch fingers is sure to be a memorable evening full of laughs and probably some pretty awesome Instagram photos.

You can get Halloween cookie cutters from Michael’s, but even without cookie cutters, Betty Crocker offers some great Halloween baking ideas including Halloween cookie pizza and Halloween ‘RIP’ pudding cups!

4. Go on a haunted tour together

The Stanley Park Ghost Train and the Haunted Vancouver Trolley Tour are both great spooky tours perfect for a date night. The Stanley Park Ghost Train is a bit more on the tame side, suitable for both adults and children. This year’s ghost train has a theme of Mother Goose’s Ghastly Garden, offering a twisted take on classic nursery rhymes and an incorporation of elaborate set pieces to create a mystical and spooky experience.

The Haunted Vancouver Trolley Tour: You’ll need your date to keep warm for this chilling, eerie tour. offers murderous tales of infamous Vancouver ghost stories and takes you to destinations such as the murderous mansions of Shaughnessy and Vancouver’s first city morgue at the Vancouver Police Museum. This tour is not suitable for children under the age of 13.

5. Visit a Haunted House together

Depending on your location, there are some great haunted houses to visit with your date this week. The Chinatown Haunted House on Carrall Street transforms the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden into one of the scariest haunted houses in Vancouver. With dozens of actors, dancers, and music, this haunted house is sure to both entertain and frighten you.

The Burnaby area boasts the Gravecouver Haunted House, at Metrotown. This Haunted House incorporates special effects such as moving floors and spooky rides, as well as several different themed rooms.

6. Carve pumpkins and make a Jack-O-Lantern

You and your date can make a whole day of this activity. Go to a local pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect pumpkins, and carve your pumpkins together to create the perfect Jack-O-Lantern. An activity like this is fun, inexpensive and allows the two of you to be creative together. Don’t forget to buy tea-light candles to light up your finished product! The ambiance created by your jack-o-lantern’s glow is both spooky and romantic.

Be sure to send us your Jack-O-Lantern pictures when you’re done!
