Springtime is well underway in Metro Vancouver, but the region’s weather forecast for this week may have locals thinking that summer has arrived early.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is forecasting temperatures in Vancouver to climb to 19°C by this weekend.
However, inland temperatures are spiking to 24°C on Monday, April 20, and you may want to put on some sunscreen if you’re heading out.

ECCC meteorologist Derek Lee told Daily Hive Vancouver that the spike in temperature can be attributed a ridge of high pressure over the region.
“There’s lots of sunshine and no cooler airmass is expected to come in to moderate the temperatures,” explained Lee.
“The ridge will likely weaken on Tuesday and Wednesday with a chance of rain in the forecast, and then rebuild in time for the weekend. It will stick around until possibly early next week for mainly dry conditions, with a prolonged period of warm weather.”
Daytime highs in the Metro Vancouver weather outlook are expected to range between 15°C and 17°C for the next five days, with overnight lows hovering between 7°C and 11°C.
Inland temperatures are also expected to reach up to 24°C on Saturday.

Several areas across the province tied or broke temperature records over the weekend, including one spot that shattered a 76-year-old record.
Port Hardy, home to the largest community on the northern part of Vancouver Island, smashed a Feb. 4 record that has been in place since 1950. It reached a temperature of 19.3°C.
The previous record for the date was only 17.2°C, a difference of over 2°C.
