The Vancouver Tweed Ride is back for its second ride, the most fashionable cycling event to roll through Vancouver.

On September 14, hundreds of Vancouver cyclists will be dressed in their finest tweeds and turn of the century attire to parade around the boroughs of the downtown core. The ride begins at The Vancouver Club and includes stops at the Roundhouse Community Centre and refreshments and ends with a British style after-party courtesy of The Terminal City Club and The Lions Pub.

Tweed rides are a worldwide phenomenon started in London in the fall of 2009 as “Tweed Run London”. The popular event has been known to sell out in minutes with celebrity participants and hundreds of cyclists in attendance. Similar rides have taken place around the world including Toronto, New York and Sydney.

Riders are asked to recreate the spirit of a bygone era by dressing in tweed or other British cycling attire, and where possible bring classic vintage bicycles.

This is the second year of the event with all registration proceeds going to Power To Be, a charity that supports youth and families living with disabilities or significant life barriers and helps them enjoy beautiful BC, through accessible outdoor adventure programs.

“We are so excited to be organizing the Vancouver Tweed Ride for the second year. This event continues to be one of Vancouver’s unique cycling events and after last year’s successful event, we can’t wait for this year’s.” says Daniel Patching, spokesperson for Vancouver Tweed Ride.

“We are extremely grateful to be the recipient charity for the second annual Vancouver Tweed Ride” says Tim Cormode, Executive Director for Power To Be. “These proceeds ensure we can continue to make a real difference through inclusive and accessible programs for youth and families that need them most. On behalf of those we serve, thank you to all the sponsors, organizers and riders who make this event possible.”

Prizes will be awarded for best-dressed tweed, best team and best bike.

The registration fee for the event is $40 and includes the ride, a swag bag, high tea, and entrance into the after party. Additional sponsors include Canadian Western Bank, Port Capital Group, Mackenzie Financial, Lin Haw, Sysco, JJBean and JDS Mining.
