'Tron: Ares' transforms Vancouver into futuristic battlefield in new trailer

We’re just a few months away from the release of the highly anticipated Tron: Ares and Vancouver is a star player in the first trailer that dropped over the weekend.
The latest film in the fan-favourite Disney franchise was filmed in Vancouver during the spring of 2024, closing down the Cambie Bridge for multiple overnight shoots.
The hard work paid off, as the first scene in the new trailer includes an epic chase between police and two light cycles.

Light cycles were introduced in the original Tron as part of a deadly game held in a virtual arena.
But in Tron: Ares, the light cycles are capable of slicing a police car in half and are also seen zooming up a mountain road that appears to be Cypress Bowl Road with the Fraser River digitally added in the background.

Other parts of the trailer, which garnered over 10 million views in just two days, show a gargantuan Tron creation stomping through downtown Vancouver near the Bentall Centre and a futuristic and explosive air battle over the city.

Vancouverites had fun spotting the city’s landmarks in the trailer and sharing them on Reddit.
“Wow, they’re barely trying to hide that it’s Vancouver,” said one commenter online. “It’s still 100 per cent not going to be Vancouver, but I do hope I eat my words on this one.
“That trailer actually looked super cool. No Daft Punk is lame though,” added another.
