Depending on the turnout, a planned climate strike this weekend in Vancouver could create some traffic havoc in the downtown core.
While expected numbers are unknown, previous climate strikes in Vancouver have shown that traffic could be severely impacted even with a small gathering of folks.

The strike is scheduled for Sunday, April 13.
A release from organizers states the strike will be made up of community members from across the Lower Mainland “to call on Canadian leaders to build a green and fair economy in response to Donald Trump’s tariffs of annexation.”
Organizers say they oppose industry and political leaders “using the current economic uncertainty caused by Trump to justify fossil fuel expansion.”
“Now that global oil markets have been revealed to be the primary driver of the ongoing affordability crisis, organizers are inviting all people in the Lower Mainland to demand that Canadian political leaders protect the security and wellbeing of everyday people by ending fossil fuel profiteering and investing in immediate and comprehensive climate action.”
The protest is being coined a family-friendly event and is part of the 2025 Global Climate Strike. The event will feature an art build, rally, and a march which stops in front of the U.S. Consulate.
“Organizers invite all community members who are concerned about the climate crisis, the
affordability crisis, Canada’s response to tariffs and annexation threats, and the rise of corporate power to attend,” a release for the strike states.
The strike starts at the Vancouver Art Gallery at 1 p.m., featuring an Indigenous welcome and opening comments.
Attendees will then march from the Art Gallery to the American Consulate from Robson Street to Jervis, then Jervis to Pender, then back up to the Art Gallery via Burrard.
