Vancouver police are investigating a serious incident that took place this past weekend involving a large rock that smashed through a Tesla vehicle’s windshield.
The passenger, a pregnant woman, was struck by the large rock and seriously injured.
The incident occurred in East Vancouver on Sunday night, and police are investigating whether the incident was an accident or intentional, as there has been a rise in mischief cases involving Tesla vehicles.
“We are working to determine whether this was a criminal act and if someone intentionally targeted this Tesla,” said VPD Sergeant Steve Addison in a statement.
He added that she is lucky to be alive.

“This very serious incident could easily have resulted in someone’s death, but for a few inches.”
The grey 2022 Tesla vehicle was travelling north on Nanaimo Street just before 9 p.m. on March 30. The vehicle passed by East 27th Ave. before a two-pound rock smashed through the windshield. It struck the passenger before it ended up on the floorboard of the vehicle.
While the injury the pregnant passenger sustained was severe, it was not life-threatening.
“Investigators have examined the vehicle and have canvassed the neighbourhood for additional evidence; however, police don’t yet know where the rock came from or what caused it to strike the vehicle,” VPD said.
Police are looking for assistance in finding answers.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or might have dashcam footage of the area between East 29th and East 22nd on Nanaimo Street between 8:40 and 9 p.m. is being asked to contact Vancouver police at 604-717-4021.
