Traffic to be heavily impacted along Hastings Street this weekend in Vancouver
Heads up that if you’re going to be travelling along East Hastings Street in Vancouver this weekend, there is going to be road work that’ll lead to some traffic delays and slow down traffic.
The City of Vancouver shared some information about the Hastings Street traffic changes in an email on Friday.
According to the City, drivers who are travelling through the northeast area of Vancouver are advised to expect delays because of work that’s taking place on sections of East Hastings Street between the Cassiar Connector and Skeena Street, close to Highway 1.
The traffic changes will be in effect for most of the day, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, Aug. 16.
East Hastings Street will be closed in both directions between Renfrew Street and Boundary Road. During the affected times, there will be no access to Highway 1 on-ramps from East Hastings Street.
Additionally, traffic exiting Highway 1 at Exit 26 will only be able to travel westbound on East Hastings Street, the City says, and there will be no access to eastbound East Hastings Street.
Impacted roads are scheduled to reopen overnight, between 7 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. on Sunday.
If you’re a transit rider, buses will continue to operate through the impacted areas, but the City is warning transit riders to expect delays and to keep track of the latest alerts on the TransLink website.
Pedestrian access will also be maintained through the closure, and VPD traffic control personnel will be on site to help support road users and pedestrians.
East Hastings businesses in the impacted area will be maintained, as will access to local residences.
The City says that repaving work involves removing old roadway surfaces, replacing them with new asphalt, for the sake of a smoother, safer, and longer-lasting surface for road users.
