In light of the recent layoffs in Vancouver’s tech and gaming industry, Vancouver Social Games, A Thinking Ape, and EXP Bar will be hosting a pop-up job fair on Friday May 3rd – an industry event, open to anyone looking for work in the social gaming industry. The event was announced yesterday and is already sold out with 100 people signed up to attend. The list of studios participating in the pop-up job fair is growing.

To date, East Side Games, Hothead Games, DeNA, IUGO Mobile Entertainment, Kabam and Gamehouse are among the studios that have signed up to show their support for those affected by the industry downturn. Most recently, PopCap, Quicklime, and United Front Games have announced studio closures and layoffs that shook the Vancouver gaming industry.

Upon learning of the layoffs, Vancouver Social Games immediately put together a list of all companies currently hiring and sent it out to everyone in their Meetup network. A Thinking Ape, a growing social mobile games developer, pitched the idea of a pop-up job fair for everyone who has been affected by the studio layoffs and closures.

The event is set for Friday, May 3rd at EXP Bar at 1:00PM. “We think this is a great opportunity to show the community that despite layoffs and closures, Vancouver has a booming games industry with great people willing to work together to help each other find work,” says Tayber Voyer, founder of blog and Meetup group Vancouver Social Games.

“The talent landscape in Vancouver is quite competitive but this is a great example of how the start-up community comes together to shine some light on an unfortunate situation,” says Sonia Ryan from A Thinking Ape.
