A downtown Vancouver street was closed for a short time due to an incident at an apartment building near Richards and Nelson streets.
Daily Hive has received a few details from the Vancouver Police Department about the incident and subsequent road closure.
According to VPD Constable Darren Wong, police responded to reports of objects being thrown from an apartment window close to Richards and Nelson.
“As a result, police responded, and traffic was diverted,” Wong said.
Wong added that the objects were being thrown from an apartment on the sixth floor.

Traffic reopened soon after the incident, which is still under investigation. Daily Hive attended the scene and noticed some chairs that were smashed, seemingly related to the incident.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened in Vancouver. Back in 2023, a major intersection was closed off in the Downtown Eastside due to someone throwing objects from a suite on the 10th floor.
In a report on X related to that incident, someone claimed that a TV was thrown out the window. The police response was massive.

Something similar happened earlier this year on Granville Street, which triggered an 11-hour standoff and a deployment of over 50 Vancouver police officers.
Officers responded to someone throwing objects from a third-floor window onto the sidewalk.
The department said that “more than 50 officers” were deployed, which included crisis negotiators and specially trained tactical officers from the Emergency Response Team in efforts to negotiate the man’s surrender.
The VPD said that the 48-year-old man was wanted under the Mental Health Act at the time of his arrest and has since been taken to hospital for treatment.
