For the second time this week, snow blanketed much of Metro Vancouver, marking one of the region’s most significant snowfalls in years.
Snowfall was even accumulating on the streets and buildings in downtown Vancouver, which rarely sees the accumulation of snow, unless temperatures are well below freezing, given the urban heat island effect of the city centre’s cluster of large buildings.

Environment Canada indicated that the downtown Vancouver peninsula saw 6 cm of snow by 3 pm today. More snow fell throughout the evening, and it is expected that this will continue overnight and through much of Saturday.
By morning, low-lying areas near sea level could see another 2 and 4 cm while higher elevations could see up to 10 cm.
