A resident at an apartment building in the city’s West End neighbourhood was injured this week after a bizarre incident involving fireworks.
According to VPD, the incident took place on Thursday night when the resident – an 88-year-old woman who lives on the fifth floor of the building – was awakened after “something came through her window and hit her on the head.”
The woman called police, and when officers responded to the scene, they discovered the woman “had a large burn on the top of her head.”

There were also “two holes in her living room window, and glass and cardboard fragments all over the floor,” police said. Officers at the scene ultimately determined the damage and woman’s injury “was the remnants of a firework.”
Police said a pedestrian “flagged down the officers to advise she had seen the suspects who set off the firework headed west on Comox Street.”
However, despite an extensive area search, “the suspects were not located.”
