The Vancouver Police Department is sharing some details about an alleged unprovoked assault that has left a restaurant worker with a dislocated shoulder and another person charged with crimes.

According to a release from the VPD, the alleged incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on June 2 in the Mount Pleasant area.

VPD shared that a concerned citizen reported a man yelling profanities in that neighbourhood.

When officers arrived at the scene, they witnessed a man throw an object at a vehicle.

“When they attempted to arrest him, he ran away. After a brief chase, officers located him in a nearby bush and took him into custody,” VPD said.

While the suspect was in custody, the VPD had learned of another report of a restaurant worker who suffered a dislocated shoulder after allegedly being assaulted. The suspect that police had in custody matched the description of the suspect involved in that alleged assault.

VPD Constable Megan Lui had some more details about the suspect, including the fact that he had just arrived in Vancouver from Ontario.

The suspect’s name is Victor Coscarella, who is 37 years old. VPD shared that just this week, Coscarella has been the subject of over five police calls.

“The assault appears to have been unprovoked, and the motive is unknown at this time,” Lui added.

Coscarella has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and obstructing a peace officer.

He is currently in custody while awaiting his bail hearing.

Vancouver Police haven’t currently released any details about the restaurant where the injured worker was working or any addresses where the incidents had occurred.
