Major changes and layoffs hit two popular Vancouver radio stations

Jun 10 2025, 9:46 pm

More layoffs are affecting the Vancouver radio landscape, impacting CKNW and CFOX, both Corus stations.

Daily Hive was able to independently confirm the details of some of the firings, including that of the former lead producer of Mornings With Simi, with multiple sources. Additionally, we were informed that CKNW’s receptionist was let go.

We have also heard that Tyler and Lynch on CFOX, 99.3 FM, are being let go. Corus has yet to make a public announcement about the changes.

In response to our request for comment, Corus told Daily Hive that the changes are “difficult but necessary”. They will enable the corporation to “pave the way forward for Corus’ FM Radio and Talk radio.”

Tyler and Lynch hosted the drive-time show at CFOX from 2 to 6 p.m. on weekdays. They also host a show on 102.1 The Edge.

A familiar voice was heard on CFOX today instead of the regular scheduled Tyler & Lynch. That voice was of a notable Vancouver FM radio host, Drex. Drex has been hosting in Toronto and Calgary at The Edge. It remains to be seen who the full-time replacement will be.

Our sources have also informed Daily Hive that Weekend Mornings on CKNW is going to be cancelled. CKNW has undergone several notable changes recently.

The Vancouver news and talk radio station underwent a significant change at the start of the year, moving from a frequency people have come to know for decades to a new one when 980 CKNW became 730 CKNW.

Last June, we also learned that AM 730 traffic was going bye-bye, paving the way for CKNW to be broadcast on the frequency.

The news follows a major shake-up at the top that was announced last week, as Troy Reeb, the former co-CEO, was let go.

Reeb was with Corus for over 25 years, beginning his career at Canwest within the Global News division. A media release from Corus states that he stepped down to pursue other opportunities.

“In light of the evolving industry landscape as well as the actions taken to date to stabilize the capital and debt structure of the Company, the Board has decided to transition back to a single CEO structure,” said Mark Hollinger, lead independent director and co-chair of the Human Resources and Governance Committee, in a statement.

John Gossling is now the sole CEO of Corus Entertainment.

While we are still awaiting confirmation of additional details, a trusted source has informed Daily Hive that layoffs are impacting Corus radio stations across the country, including all on-air talent at the Ottawa FM stations.

We’ll likely hear more from Corus in the coming days.
