It’s almost Pride season in Vancouver, and now is the time to start planning how you’re going to celebrate this year! 

We all love the parade and festival at Sunset Beach on Pride Sunday, but you can actually pack your week full of Pride events all around the city.

Check out our roundup of some of the ones you don’t want to miss.

Pride in Chinatown 2019

What: Curated by Paul Wong, and part of Alternative Pride 2019, this is described as a “magical twilight event” featuring Vancouver’s only all-Asian drag family, the House of Rice, and plenty of other talent including hand fighting and sword dancing.
Where: Dr.Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden
When: Thursday, August 1, 7-11pm

Pride at the Vancouver Art Gallery

What: Attendees can explore four levels of the Art Gallery, and take in what the organizers are calling a “queer living library.” The event includes stories and pop-up conversations from queer artists and advocates, Paint & Drink in the Annex Workshop, bingo, as well as many performances.

Celebrities Pride Summer of Love

What: Celebrities is hosting a variety of events throughout Pride season, including a Drag Carnival starring Amanda Lepore, a late night party featuring Naomi Smalls, Rocky Horror, Grease, and a Motown party, just to name a few.

When: July 28 – August 4

March on Pride 2019: Remembering Stonewall

What: Hosted by Black Lives Matter Vancouver, this is the third annual March on Pride, to celebrate the radical and revolutionary origins of Pride, 50 years after Stonewall.  
Where: Meet at Emery Barnes Park, march down Davie Street
When: Saturday, July 27, 10:30 am
Tickets: Free, donations, volunteers, and sharing of songs/chants encouraged 

Clean, Sober, and Proud: Untoxicated 

What: Three RuPaul Drag Race winners, Alaska, Bob the Drag Queen, and Violet Chachki will be headlining the annual substance-free event featuring several local queens, and two DJs. The event celebrates overcoming addiction, and provides a safe, sober space for everyone who attends.
Where: Davie and Thurlow outdoor stage
When: Sunday, August 4, 6 to 10pm

After Hours Pride at the Vancouver Aquarium 

Ocean Wise

What: The Vancouver Aquarium has partnered with the Vancouver Pride Society for this 19+ event. Grab a drink from one of the bars scattered around the venue, and learn about the sex lives of animals. Attendees are encouraged to come in drag, or colourful and proud outfits!

When: Thursday August 1, 7 pm

Man Up Pride: By Your Side


What: Man Up is an all genders, all bodies drag variety show and queer dance party, at a queer women-run DIY warehouse space in East Van. The events are hosted monthly, and Pride is always their biggest of the year.

When: Friday August 2, 8pm
