11 Vancouver Pride 2016 events happening around town

Pride season is upon us! This year marks the 38th anniversary of Pride in Vancouver, and we’re sure it’s going to be as fun and fabulous as ever!

The theme for this year’s Pride season is “Better Together” – a great excuse to get involved and celebrate our city’s LGTBQ2+ community as one.

Plus, this year, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be joining in, marching in Vancouver’s Pride Parade on July 31.

So without further ado, here are 16 things to do this Pride season.

Pride Bingo for Life

  • What: Carlotta Gurl and Mina Mercury will be joined by DJ Del Stamp for arguably one of the most popular and outrageous community events during Pride Week. Expect incredible prizes, cheap drinks, snappy drag queen humour, and, of course, balls.
  • Where: Celebrities Night Club – 1022 Davie Street, Vancouver
  • When: Wednesday, July 27, from 8 to 10:30 pm

Pride Cabaret

  • What: You’ve never seen drag like this before! A celebrity impersonation show especially for Pride featuring Las Vegas style productions of icons like Madonna, Amy Winehouse and Celine Dion.
  • Where: Celebrities Night Club – 1022 Davie Street, Vancouver
  • When: Wednesday, July 27 at 10:30 pm

Aging With Pride

  • What: A Pride Week celebration for LGBTQ seniors and their allies, offering complimentary food, refreshments, and entertainment in a welcoming, safe, and accepting space.
  • Where: The Coast Plaza Hotel – 1763 Comox Street, Vancouver
  • When: Thursday, July 28, from 2 to 5 pm

CruiseyT’s Underwear Fashion Show

  • What: A night of sexy men in underwear, a runway show and Go Go dance performances for a sexy Pride Kick Off Party. Also featuring tribal and tech house beats from DJ Pornstar, and a Dirt Squirrel pop-up shop.

  • What: Take back the streets for Pride Weekend in the heart of the Davie Street Village! The party will spill out from the Community Stage at the historic Rainbow Crosswalk, where you can pound the pavement to some of the city’s hottest talent and witness the annual Wimple-In ceremony of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
  • Where: Davie Street between Burrard and Jervis, Vancouver
  • When: Friday, July 29, 6 pm until midnight
  • Tickets: This is a free event, but if you want to buy alcohol, you’ll need to pay $5 in advance or $10 on the door for a 19+ wristband.

Chicks Ahoy!

  • What: If you’re looking for some maritime mayhem and a rock-your-world dance floor surrounded by stunning scenery, this is the party for you. Everyone is welcome at this sticky, glittery, rainbow-filled night of hot music, hot bodies, and hot summer fun.
  • Where: Magic Yacht Charters – 1601 Bayshore Drive, Vancouver
  • When: Friday, July 29, boarding at 7 pm, sailing from 8 to 11 pm

Pride Wild Fruit

  • What: A night to dance your face off, give in to your guilty pleasures, and sing into your beer bottle. If you wish the Backstreet Boys were still together, want to sing Like a Virgin, or just wanna have fun, then this is the Pride club night for you.
  • Where: Playhouse Nightclub – 1240 Thurlow Street, Vancouver
  • When: Friday, July 29, at 9 pm

Terry Wallace Memorial Breakfast

  • What: A by-donation community breakfast honouring one of the founders of Pride in Vancouver. Enjoy syrup-covered pancakes and other breakfast delights in the heart of the Davie Village, courtesy of Independent Grocer.

Honda Celebration of Light

  • What: A bird’s eye view of the 2016 Honda Celebration of Light finale, hosted by Vancouver’s best-known drag queen, Joan-E for Friends & Company. Includes complimentary vodka cocktails served by bartenders, a live DJ and prizes.

Pride Festival at Sunset Beach

  • What: Browse more than 100 exhibitors in the Pride Market, including local artisans and community organizations. Bands, drag performers, and speakers will be featured on the main stage, with DJs spinning in the beer garden throughout the day.
  • Where: Sunset Beach Park – 1204 Beach Avenue, Vancouver
  • When: Sunday, July 31 at 11 am

Vancouver Pride Parade 2016

  • What: Attracting crowds of more than 650,000, the annual Pride Parade is the city’s largest parade and is renowned on the international stage as on of the largest and most successful events in the world, in support of LGBTQQ+ communities.
