Vancouver Police want to thank mystery good samaritan for his help

The Vancouver Police Department are searching for an unknown good samaritan after he helped officers control an erratic and violent suspect.

On Wednesday, September 23 at around 6:30 p.m., several concerned and fearful people waved down a pair of police officers who were on patrol near the Vancouver Convention Centre to control a man who was acting strangely. He was shirtless and appeared to be very agitated, was yelling, and throwing punches.

The officers caught up to the man at the stairs at Jack Poole Plaza where they tried to help him, but the situation quickly escalated.

Officers were trying to figure out why the man was acting so erratically, and while he did stop when asked at first, he turned on the officers, becoming violent. A struggle then ensued.

An unknown man joined in to help the officers by restraining the assailant’s legs, allowing them to regain control and handcuff him until backup arrived. The 33-year-old Burnaby resident was taken to jail and charges are being recommended against him.

Unfortunately, the mystery man left before officers could properly thank him. They think he might have been a construction worker, but they want him to step forward so they can express their gratitude.
