Man in critical condition after police-involved shooting in Vancouver

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has taken over an investigation of an incident in Vancouver that resulted in a police-involved shooting.

According to Vancouver Police, the incident occurred just after 4:30 pm Saturday near West 18th Avenue and Manitoba Street.

Police encountered a distraught man in his early 30s who allegedly confronted officers with a weapon.

Attempts were made to negotiate with the man, and less-lethal options were used to disarm him. However, the man was subsequently shot by an officer and rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Officers that attended the scene were not physically injured.

Few details are available at this time as the investigation has been turned over to the IIO.
