Police hoping to catch the perps in Vancouver Pokémon card heist caught on video

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is sharing some footage of a heist of high-value Pokémon cards that took place earlier this week.

The footage was taken on Aug. 3, highlighting an incident that occurred at almost 3 a.m.

Video shows two hooded suspects at the back door of the Royal Card Shop and Collectibles, which is located at 4355 Dunbar St. VPD said that the suspects “pried open” the back door and used a stolen Ford pickup truck to rope and pull a safe out from the back.

Both the VPD and Royal Card Shop have shared footage of the incident. Royal Card Shop captioned its video, “We Got Robbed.”

In the video, you can see Pokémon cards scattered all around the rear of the Vancouver shop.

Many of Royal Card Shop’s followers responded to the video.

It’s actually so sad that the hobby has come to this… sorry to see this happen to y’all. The lower mainland robberies have gotten out of hand over the last year or two,” one follower said.

In fact, this isn’t the first story we’ve published about a Pokémon card heist.

Earlier this year, there was a brazen theft of Pokémon cards at a New Westminster collectible store. And, in April, three teenagers were arrested in connection with a similar incident.

Another user echoed the previous comment, saying, “It’s getting way out of hand.”

Police later recovered the abandoned stolen vehicle in Surrey the same morning, which was still running when it was located. The Ford pickup has since been transported to a Vancouver Police property garage for forensic analysis.

Investigators describe both suspects as white men wearing all-black clothing,” VPD said.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may have had dashcam footage is asked to call the VPD Property Crime tip line at 604-717-0610.
