Vancouver to resume parking enforcement in Kitsilano and Point Grey

Apr 16 2020, 4:32 pm

Starting on Friday, April 17, the City of Vancouver will resume parking enforcement in Kitsilano and Point Grey.

Enforcement will take place on the streets north of 10th Avenue and west of Burrard Street. This applies to residential permit-parking areas, resident-parking only areas, and Vancouver resident permit-parking streets.

The announcement was made to discourage residents from driving across town to access public beaches, parks, and trails. Rather, residents are reminded to remain in their own neighbourhoods.

“The goal is to enable physical distancing and reduce the number of people congregating on the area’s beaches and trails,” reads a statement from the City of Vancouver. “These steps are in addition to the Park Board’s closure of parking lots at Kits Beach and Jericho.”

The City is also removing parking next to Kits Park. Local traffic-only signage will be placed on nearby streets, which will also give individuals walking and cycling along the seawall more space to practice physical distancing.

Parking enforcement officers will ticket cars without appropriate permits.

The City of Vancouver stresses that they will allow healthcare workers to continue to park for free as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Last week, the City announced that it would be closing off car access to Stanley Park, resuming parking enforcement in the West End, and partially closing vehicle access to Beach Avenue.
