Vancouver No. 1 International Convention Destination in North America

This article in the Vancouver Sun caught me by total surprise. I mean I know that Vancouver is the best city for conventions in Canada, without a doubt. Is there even any real competition? However, when I found out that international conventioneers prefer Vancouver as their North American destination to host a convention, I was totally caught off guard. Las Vegas, New York or anything else in the eastern seaboard would have been my first few guesses. Shows what I know.

Now with that being known, the new convention centre expansion is looking better and better. Yes naysayers will point out the cost overruns, as they should. However, take into consideration that it was built during the height of the construction boom and had great “green” aspirations, which seems to be paying off right now. The green roof adds to the waterfronts bland greyness and glass condos.Worldwide Vancouver ranked No. 31. I think that number will creep up soon enough. Even in these tough economic times conventions are being booked.
