While the start to the new week is a wet one for Metro Vancouver, warmer temperatures are just around the corner with the start of the new month.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) meteorologist Bobby Sekhon told Daily Hive that the longer-term forecast indicates a probability of temperatures exceeding the seasonal averages.
This is great news for those looking forward to hitting the beach and soaking up some sunshine, especially with rain in the forecast to end the month of April.
The average May at the Vancouver International Airport weather station sees a daily high of about 13°C.

This week’s forecast calls for a mix of sun and showers, which Sekhon said is not abnormal.
“It’s normal to have a stretch of warm, hot, dry days, then get into a more unsettled stretch with mixed, cool weather. It’s a cyclical pattern, and later in May is when we typically see hotter temperatures than earlier in the month.”
Sekhon said that inland temperatures this week could rise to five to 10 degrees above the seasonal average for the region.
Environment Canada has forecast that temperatures on Thursday, May 1, could reach 24°C.
But don’t put away your rain jackets and wind breakers just yet, as the temperatures are set to dip down to the mid-teens for the first weekend of the new month.
