A Vancouverite who says he was pepper sprayed by a stranger believes it was because he refused to lend the man a lighter.
Ivan Rogachyov was having a cigarette near Homer and Davie streets around 8 am on Saturday when he says a homeless man approached him and asked for a light.
When Rogachyov said no, he says the man pepper sprayed him.
In security camera footage sent to Daily Hive, a man in a blue jacket and grey pants can be seen spraying something at Rogachyov, who is standing behind a gate.
Rogachyov quickly turns his back, ducking out of the frame. The man continues to spray the substance for several seconds before walking away.
Rogachyov said he called police, but officers were unable to immediately locate the suspect.
Sergeant Steve Addison with the Vancouver Police Department told Daily Hive the incident is currently under investigation.
Addison adds that the suspect “took off” before police arrived and no arrests have been made.
