A 37-year-old man was arrested after an incident involving a mom with her 17-month-old baby in a stroller in Vancouver.
According to some information that the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) shared, the incident took place on Tuesday, April 7, when a mom was pushing a baby stroller on a walk at around 10:30 a.m.
The mom and her baby were walking near West Broadway and Blenheim Street when the VPD says a stranger grabbed her phone. That area of West Broadway is generally quite bustling, with many businesses and food establishments.
“When she held on to the phone, the man allegedly threatened her with a knife and attempted to push the stroller over,” VPD shared.
Fortunately, VPD said the mom was able to stop the stroller from falling, but the suspect was able to escape with the mom’s phone.
VPD said that witnesses in the area heard the mother yelling for help and jumped in to chase the suspect.
“They provided a description of the man, and within minutes, patrol officers located and arrested a suspect,” VPD added.
Charges have now been approved against 37-year-old Ibrahim Omar. He has been charged with robbery and uttering threats. He is currently in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
