Haunted Vancouver: The Decapitated Wanderer of Water Street

Dec 19 2017, 12:40 pm

In continuing our ode to the 2010 Vancouver Halloween season our next Vancouver haunting takes us yet again to Gastown.

Many have stated that at nights when they are out and about in Gastown strolling down Water Street to have witnessed what looks to be a decapitated mine worker. It’s said that he can be seen carrying a lantern walking aimlessly through the cobblestone streets of Gastown. Legend has it the apparition is that of an Asian mine worker and there are two stories as to how he became decapitated.

One of the ghoulish explanations is that he was robbed and decapitated by thieves and he wanders the streets seeking out revenge. Another tale claims that he was walking along a railroad track with his lantern when he tripped and fell. His leg became caught in one of the rail and the oncoming train decapitated him.

I myself have not witnessed this apparition, but do believe there has to be something out there that science can’t explain and no I’m not talking about global warming. I’m talking stories of the supernatural and extraordinary. Do you believe in ghosts?
