Temperatures across Vancouver are forecast to take a steep dive ahead of this weekend’s expected snowfall.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures are expected to reach a low of -3°C over Friday night and Saturday morning. However, with the wind chill factor, it’s expected to feel like a frigid -7°C.

If it’s any consolation, at least sunny, clear skies are expected on both Friday and Saturday.

A special weather statement also remains in effect over much of Metro Vancouver. Snow is expected to begin on Saturday night and continue into Sunday, mixing with rain by Sunday afternoon.

Between 2 to 5 cm of snow is expected for the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast; anywhere from 5 to 15 cm is expected for areas of Vancouver Island.

The City of Vancouver says that it’s prepared 100 snow and ice vehicles as well as 3,000 tonnes of salt for this coming weekend.
