11 Vancouver food events to check out this week, August 7 to 13

This week kicks off with our BC Day holiday, and the deliciousness keeps rolling on all the way through the weekend with special dinners, ice cream pop-ups, and ongoing limited-time food and drink events sure to liven up your summer eating.

Here are 11 Vancouver food events happening in and around the city the week of August 7 through 13, 2017.

1. Smoothie Day at Faubourg

Celebrate BC Day with a fresh, cold, fruity smoothie at Faubourg. The treat shop and cafe will be blending up the goodness for a refreshing $3 a pop at their Park Royal and Hornby locations.

2. Blues and BBQ at Rusty Rail BBQ and Grill at Grouse Mountain

Every Monday night in July and August, head to Grouse Mountain at the Rusty Rail mountaintop patio to take in the smoky barbecue and the groove of blues all while enjoying the spectacular sunset views and a chill vibe brought to you by live music courtesy of artists like Wes Mackey, Brandon Issak, and Harris & Debray.

3. Canada 150 Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

Zeroing in on July 1, and Canada’s big 150th birthday, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s current afternoon tea is Canadian-themed, and features cool vintage Canadian travel decor, custom tea blends, a tiered “tower” of savoury nibbles inspired by different regions in our nation, and a delicious spread of Canadian desserts.

4. BETA5’s Summer Ice Cream Socials + special collab pop-ups

In addition to their regular Saturday Ice Cream socials every weekend this summer, in August, BETA5 will have pop-up socials in collaboration with The Juice Truck (August 10) and Four Winds Brewing (August 13). Follow BETA5 on Instagram for details about these, and more TBA events this summer. You’ll find a new sundae every week every Saturday through September 30 from 1 to 5 pm at BETA5’s Industrial Avenue storefront.

5. SIDECUT’s Summer BeerBQ

Whistler’s favourite BBQ is back!  This summer, SIDECUT at the Four Seasons Whistler will be partnering with different BC craft breweries every week, weaving beer into classic recipes and offering guests interesting pours and a wide selection of barbequed proteins, bright salads and satisfying sides, plus live entertainment. At this price it is more than worth the drive.

6. Black Bamboo Pop-Up Cocktail Bar

The Black Bamboo Pop-Up Cocktail Bar at 1219 Granville Street is officially open from now until September 30, running every Friday and Saturday from 8 pm to 11 pm. You can make reservations up to two weeks in advance for this intimate, tropical-themed room which comes complete with live music, entertainment, champagne, and fresh cold-pressed juice cocktails. Patrons can expect something different on any given night, including rotating music themes like funk, hip hop, disco, and 90s jams.

7. Brunch Affair Food Festival

The Brunch Affair Food Festival is happening on three days spread over two weekends, and each day is jam-packed with top-quality AM-eats from a variety of Vancouver restaurants, vendors, and treat-makers. Look for everything you need from Eggs Benny to bagels, arepas, coffee, pastries, paella, charcuterie, cider, beer, and craft spirits.

When:  Saturday, August 12, and Sunday, August 13, from 10 am to 4 pm

8. Rosé All Day Brunch at Market by Jean-Georges

Aimed at those who like to savour and sip their way through the weekend midday meal, “Rosé All Day” features a sexy new menu of contemporary riffs on brunch classics, along with oodles of rosé. Look for everything from a cool Rosé Spritzer (Kim Crawford Rose, Simple Syrup, Strawberries, Lemon, Club Soda) to a very Instagrammable Rosé Popsicle (House Made Popsicle with Ruffino Sparkling Rosé).

11. Sunday Seafood Boil Series at Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar is brining back their annual Sunday Seafood Boil Series returns for a third consecutive year. Limited to just 24 seats at each event, enjoy best fresh-caught selections of crawfish, jumbo prawns, clams, mussels and Dungeness crab, served in a traditional East Coast-style seafood boil piled high on butcher’s paper.
