Know-it-all Vancouver fan gets trolled by Australian soccer pro at FIFA World Cup

The FIFA World Cup kicked off in Vancouver on Saturday night with a thrilling atmosphere at BC Place.

Thousands of fans from Australia and Türkiye filled the stadium, but of course there were locals in attendance as well.

Apparently one Canadian fan tried to teach an Australian visitor a thing or two about the beautiful game. Little did he realize, he was talking to Brad Smith, who once played for Liverpool in the English Premier League.

But rather than tell the fan about his resume, Smith instead decided to mess with him.

“A Canadian fan [was] telling me about tactics, about soccer,” Smith said explained on the Fanatics podcast.

“He was behind me the whole game just talking to his mate about the game and trying to teach him about soccer. It just sounded like he had no idea. He just kept going and then Woz turned around and told the lad that it was my first soccer game I’d ever been to.”

You can see Smith nodding along sarcastically in the viral video.

You have to admire the Canadian fan’s passion for the game, at the very least.

Smith played for Liverpool and AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League before moving on to Major League Soccer, where he suited up for the Seattle Sounders, DC United, Houston Dynamo, and FC Cincinnati. Internationally, the 32-year-old left back represented the Australian men’s national team on 23 occasions.

Vancouver is set to host six more FIFA World Cup matches, with Canada set to clash with Qatar on Thursday afternoon.
