Cold War playing at North Van Arts International Film Series

What: An epic love story spanning borders and decades by filmmaker Pawel Pawlikowski, director of the Academy Award–winning Ida. Set during the eponymous state of geopolitical tension following World War II, Cold War is a portrait of the complex relationship between two doomed lovers and their country.

Baja Dog Project Fundraiser

What: The Baja Dog Project Fundraiser is combining cocktails and canines for a very worthy cause: Helping homeless dogs. The group is raising money to film a documentary about the plight of stray dogs in the Baja Peninsula in Mexico, and the efforts to help them. Spearheaded by Melanie Booth and Stephanie Taylor of the non-profit animal rescue West Coast Pet Project, the duo has an ambitious goal of raising $30,000 to cover production costs. Guests at the March 13 event in Mount Pleasant can expect to meet rescue dogs, and doggos currently up for adoption. There’s also made-to-order grilled cheese sandwiches, a 6-foot charcuterie board, and $4 drinks provided by Nude and Red Truck.

Growing Room: So You Think You Can Slam?

What: Growing Room presents the festival’s first ever Poetry Slam. The theme for this slam is Tender, and the two-round slam will feature LJ Weisberg, Rabbit Richards, Estíqw, bassam, David Ly, Jo Billows, Valeen Jules. Hosted by jaye simpson.
