SPARK ANIMATION 2018 Film Festival

  • What: SPARK ANIMATION celebrates the impact of animation on today’s entertainment industry and honours the diversity of films and techniques in the field. Highlights include four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, a talk with Vancouver animation filmmakers and Oscar winners David Fine and Alison Snowden, the SPARK Animation Conference and Career Fair, film premieres and screenings, and more. All proceeds from this year’s festival will be donated to Covenant House Vancouver.

Hands-On Scientist: Be Aware – Bears!

  • What: Delve into the secret lives of park plants and animals as scientists share presentations and research techniques then guide a walk in the park. Explore the real world of bears and their behaviour with biologist Ellie Archer and search for signs of bear activity. Ages 8+.

  • What: UK rockers Arctic Monkeys are back in Vancouver with special guests Mini Mansions. The group has released five studio albums, with the last one “AM” came out back in 2013.

MurderCon

  • What: MurderCon is an interactive murder mystery event set at a Sci-Fi fan convention where guests solve a grisly crime using science. Cocky actors, greedy executives and obsessive fans are sure to ignite some dramatic clashes. Come in costume for a chance to win a prize.

The Shakespeare Show

  • What: Based on the greatest theatrical debate of all time, The Shakespeare Show by Monster Theatre investigates the theory that the plays of William Shakespeare were actually penned by Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford. Just like one of his tragic heroes, Oxford sets his own tragedy in motion by using young Will Shakespeare, the boy who holds the horses outside the theatre, as a ‘front’ for his playwriting ventures. Along the way, we meet the Ghost of Christopher Marlowe, the Three Witches from Mac… The Scottish Play, Anne Hathaway, the Bubonic Plague and Queen Elizabeth herself.

Root Dwellers: Little Crow, Combine the Victorious, Dangertree

  • What: Root Dwellers Music Showcase presents indie electronic duo Combine the Victorious, dark indie rock duo Little Crow and the gypsy-rock, groove-infused trio Dangertree.
