What: Now in its eighth year, the food truck extravaganza will take place from January 21 to 27, where foodies can find a rotating selection of purveyors outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, in šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énk Square, on the north side of the building. Entry is FREE this year, leaving you more cash to spend on some epic eats.

Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge 2018

What: Thousands of sparkling lights will illuminate the iconic suspension bridge and other areas of the park. The 30-ton Douglas Firs of the Treetops Adventure will also be dressed in lights. Standing at an impressive 110 feet above the forest floor, the Douglas Firs that connect the suspension bridges are the eight tallest Christmas trees in the world, according to event organizers. Also returning to this year’s festival is the Snowy Owl prowl, gingerbread cookie decorating, and sing-along carols with a holiday band.

Throwdown International TheatreSports Festival at Vancouver TheatreSports

What: Vancouver TheatreSports welcomes teams from other cities who bring their A-Game to head-to head matches with each other and local teams comprised of VTS’s top improvisers. The visiting line-up features SAK Comedy Lab (Orlando, Florida), Curious Comedy Theatre (Portland, Oregon), On the Spot Improv (Honolulu,Hawaii) and Ryan Stiles’ company Upfront Theatre (Bellingham, WA).

Indigenous Hip Hop with JB the First Lady

What: Learn a brief history of hip hop, the four elements that make it up, and how these elements reflect Indigenous culture, followed by a short interactive activity teaching students how to beatbox. JB the First Lady will perform some of her songs highlighting the power of storytelling and music, and will encourage each young person to find out what gift or element they have and make it shine brightly. All Ages are welcome.

Whistler Pride and Ski Festival 2019

What: Each day begins with open and inclusive guided ski and snowboarding groups, alternating between Whistler and Blackcomb. Afterwards, warm up at the free friendly après. Every night features specially curated entertainment including a game night, a private event at Scandinave Spa, a comedy night featuring Pam Ann, an indoor pool party, a cabaret drag show, and a variety of dance parties.

Circle Game: Reimagining the music of Joni Mitchell

What: The enduring music of Joni Mitchell is re-imagined in this musical experience. One of the most influential recording artists of the late 20th century, Joni Mitchell has often reflected on social and environmental ideals through her music. Circle Game reinterprets Mitchell’s iconic songs such as “Big Yellow Taxi”, “River”, “California” and “A Case of You” through the ears and eyes of a new generation, connecting them to the politics and world of today. Conceived and directed by Vancouver’s Andrew Cohen and Anna Kuman.

WHODUNNIT: Big Top, Big Trouble

What: Whodunnit is an original musical by The 13th Story which follows Detective Trudy Collins as she investigates a murder at the Little Pear Circus. Behind each cheery face is a possible suspect – from a firebrand clown, to a pair of twisted contortionists, to a slighted fortune teller. Will Trudy crack the case? Or will the killer remain free, lurking in the shadows of the big top?
