March On, Vancouver! 2018

  • What: One year after tens of thousands of people took to Vancouver’s streets to support the huge Women’s March in Washington DC, the resistance is back. March On, Vancouver! will kick off at Jack Poole Plaza on Saturday, January 20, and everyone is invited to come stand up against inequality once again. The event is being organized by two of last year’s march organizers and other grassroots groups, in collaboration with the national Women’s March group.

Club PuSh

  • What: The PuSh International Performing Arts Festival hosts its less-formal, night-time weekend series, Club PuSh, at two venues in 2018. Spend an evening alongside artists and art-lovers while taking in your choice of eight shows ranging from the hip and queer, to the radical and riotous.

Tyler Morrison

  • What: Tyler Morrison has appeared on CBC’s hit show The Debaters, Robert Kelly’s You Know What Dude, and The Ron Jeremy Celebrity Roast where he received a standing ovation. Also featuring Chris Griffin and MC Chris Gaskin.

Conifer Walk

Coast Salish Stories and Beading Demo

  • What: First Nations educator Kwantlen Elder Helen Carr presents Coast Salish stories and a beading demo at Deer Lake Gallery. Experience and learn about the local Coast Salish culture and history through activities and presentation.

Sledge Hockey – Try It Day

Curator’s Talk and Opening Reception

  • What: Celebrate the opening of Surrey Art Gallery’s two winter exhibits. Many Visions, Many Versions features the work of 24 contemporary artists from four major indigenous artistic traditions in India: the Gond and Warli communities of Central India, the Mithila region of Bihar, and the narrative scroll painters of West Bengal. Throughout the lobby, enjoy the traditional and contemporary quilts with Canadian themes in the quilting exhibit Canada, eh! by Fraser Valley Quilters’ Guild.
