Gluten Free Expo
What: Canada’s largest gluten free event is returning to the Vancouver Convention Centre East with hundreds of products to check out. Hear and learn from registered dieticians, nutritionists, doctors, and chefs.

2020 VSO New Music Festival
What: Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s New Music Festival takes place from January 11 to 16, with a variety of performances that explore this year’s theme of (re)creation. Highlights include Kaija Saariaho and Unsuk Chin, Thomas Ades’ Powder Her Face led by Music Director Emeritus Bramwell Tovey, pre-concert panels and discussions, post-concert Q&A’s, and more.

Hands On Scientist Barn Owls
What: Owl researcher Sofi Hindmarch hosts an evening of interesting owl-study insights and a walk to look for signs of owls at Campbell Valley Regional Park.

Skate Plaza at The Shipyards
What: The Shipyards’ large, covered outdoor plaza has been converted into a free ice rink for the season. The rink will be open to skating seven days a week from 12 to 7 pm.
The skateable surface is approximately 20,000 sq. ft., including the floor area of the 12,000-sq-ft plaza and the adjacent 8,000-sq-ft summertime water spray area, both of which are covered by a retractable roof. Skaters can either bring their own skates or rent a pair of skates on-site for $7, although quantities are limited. Helmets and skating aids are free.

House and Home
What: The world premiere of House and Home by Jenn Griffin. An insightful comedy about Vancouver’s current real estate crisis, the play follows Hilary and Henry and their struggles to keep their house. Directed by Firehall Arts Centre’s Artistic Producer, Donna Spencer.

Brackendale Eagle Festival – The Matinee concert
What: The Brackendale Eagle Festival features an all-ages live concert by The Matinee on January 11 at the Brackendale Art Gallery

Nature Work Parties
What: Help take care of Surrey’s unique urban forest in Hazelnut Meadows Community Park by removing invasive plants and litter. No experience is required and everyone is welcome to take part. Tools, training and light refreshments will be provided.

Raincouver Themed Afternoon Tea at Notch8
What: Notch8, located on the main floor of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, presents new tea offering Raincouver Afternoon Tea. The tea features both sweet and savoury treats.
Tea lovers can expect fare like a Crab Profiterole made with Dungeness crab, green apple, smoked roe and fennel, and sweet eats like the Chocolate Mud Tart served in a dark chocolate pastry shell, filled with chocolate crémeux, chocolate ganache and chocolate “soil,” to name a few.

Herring Sale for Autism
What: Autism Community Training is hosting an Herring for Autism Sale, sponsored by Oceanside Fisheries, to raise funds for ACT. Last year over 20,000 pounds of herring was sold.

Bowie Ball 2020
What: An annual celebration of the music, art, theatre, fashion, and philosophy of David Bowie featuring performances by a variety of Vancouver musicians. The event is also a fundraiser for The Canadian Cancer Society.
