Pop-Up Craft: Upcycled Wooden Key Chains

What: Join Craft Council of British Columbia and Downtown Vancouver for Pop-Up Craft: a series of free workshops in summer 2019.Billy Would Designs teaches attendees to make Upcycled Wood Keychains. You will be able to use ‘scrap’ pieces of wood to sand and decorate their own keychain or pin. Decorations will include cut up newspapers, glitter and various other craft supplies.

Magnetic North Festival 2019

Activate! Wellness Fair 55+

What: Find information and resources all in one spot to stay safe, health and well. Visit over 40 booths of local organizations and companies offering programs, products and services specifically for those 55+ years. Drop-in for blood pressure checks by Wellness Clinic retired Registered Nurses, bone density scans and dietitian consultations and health and wellness resources and information. Then take part in over 20 workshops throughout the day with a focus on transportation, mobility and health in order to stay connected to community. This event is for 55+ and registration is required.

Hosanna by Michel Tremblay

What: Hosanna by seminal French Canadian playwright Michel Tremblay shines light on the fear of change, identity, and the reluctance to release the illusion of self. Aging drag queen Hosanna, a man wanting to be a woman, wanting to be Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra, with her live-in partner Curiette, a going-to-seed leather stud, faces a Halloween night feeling like an outsider in her own skin. Thursday Artist Talk: Doreen Brust Johnson, “A Dream is to Write”

What: Canadian historical fiction novelist Doreen Brust Johnson tells her story of writing novels while having no formal education beyond grade eleven. She will take you through her early years growing up on a small farm in Saskatchewan to where she is now: a published author with three books titled Walking Barefoot in my ShoesSounds in My Shadow, and Momma, Momma, the Preacher’s Comin’.  In addition to sharing her writing journey and how she navigated the publishing world, Doreen will tell stories of northern prairie life, making history come alive. Copies of her books will be available to purchase at the talk.

What: A celebration of the Italian National Day. What: Reel Causes presents a screening of Because We Are Girls. A conservative Indo-Canadian family in small-town British Columbia must come to terms with a devastating secret: three sisters were sexually abused by an older relative beginning in their childhood years.
