This Vancouver event will teach you how to do salon-quality styles at home

It’s starting to rain in Vancouver, and you know what that means: frizzy hair for days. Or flat hair for days. Or, heaven forbid, maybe even hat hair for days. Say it ain’t so! You don’t need to do that to yourself, or your poor, poor locks, this fall. You both deserve better.

As the seasons change, so should your hair routine, but finding products that are just right for you can be time-consuming and pricey.

Instead, knock out two birds with one stone by dropping into QALI’s first-ever Sip & Style workshop on October 24, where hair pros will show you how to use tools you already have, answer all your hair care questions, and give you some product demos so you can get that bomb salon look at home.

QALI specializes in hair extensions (both semi-permanent and clip-in) that are ethically sourced from New Zealand, but that’s not all they do. The salon also offers colour, cuts, styling, and treatments, all of which fit into their mission of working with cruelty-free, sustainability-focused brands.

The studio is relatively new to the city, having just opened its doors in Chinatown, and the staff are excited to work with new clients in their space for the first time.

There are two options for what you can do with your time at the workshop. If you’ve got an extra $20 lying around, show up with that and all of the hair tools you already have — from irons and clip-ins to products — and the stylists will teach you how to use them yourself by giving your hair a home-style makeover in the salon.

You’ll also get product demos and samples from the Evo and Design.ME hair product lines and a 15% discount on anything you buy there.

If you’re looking to upgrade your hair styling toolkit, bring some extra cash along with your pre-purchased ticket for a hot tool add-on. This option includes everything in the BYOT (bring your own tools) package, but you can purchase and learn how to use the Cloud 9 wide flat iron ($252 plus tax, regular $360) or the Aria 1.25 barrel curling wand ($119 plus tax, regular $170).

Anyone who shows up will also be given take-home treats, sips, and nibbles free of charge.

Here’s something else that’s really cool: proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Aboriginal Mother Centre, an organization dedicated to moving mothers and children at risk off the streets and keeping them together as a family. So, you can leave QALI both looking and feeling better thanks to what you did that day.

Into it? Arrive with clean, dry hair, and your go-to tools, and let the pros Queer Eye your hair up. Let’s be real; you want to look your best in this October’s pumpkin patch pictures. Do it for the ‘gram.

But be quick! There are only 20 spots available, so make sure you pre-purchase your tickets online.
