A Vancouver e-scooter rider was hit in the face with a hammer
A Vancouver e-scooter rider was hit in the face with a hammer on Monday night.
According to a press release from the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the victim was out on an e-scooter near Gladstone Street and Vaness Avenue in East Vancouver.
An unidentified man approached him from behind on a silver bicycle and “struck him in the face with a hammer.”
VPD said that the suspect has been described as a white man in his late 40s, with a grey buzz cut and facial stubble.
“He was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt, black pants, and black shoes, and riding a silver bicycle.”
Police heard from another individual that a suspect with the same description threatened them with a hammer, but no assault occurred.
The VPD is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dash cam footage that could help identify the suspect to contact them.
Another incident
Earlier today, the VPD sent out a release about a Surrey man who allegedly chased a Vancouver security guard with a metal rod.
Early Saturday morning, the VPD responded to a call from an on-duty security guard at a parkade near Cambie and Dunsmuir Street.
While the guard was on a patrol, he found a man sleeping in the parkade and asked him to leave.
“The suspect allegedly produced a short metal rod and began swinging it at the guard and damaged the guard’s vehicle. The suspect then chased after the guard on a bicycle,” reads the release from the VPD.
The VPD found and arrested a man who matched the description of the suspect minutes later in another underground parkade near Cambie and West Georgia Street. He was charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000.
